Modelling groundwater flow and contaminant transport

Specialises in the modelling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport through environmental systems using one-, two-, or three-dimensional geological, conceptual and mathematical models implemented in a computer model. Geological systems include porous and fractured media under saturated or variable saturated (vadose zone) conditions, while analytical, semi-analytical or numerical techniques are used for the implementation of conceptual and mathematical models in computer codes.

  • Hydrogeological Data Analysis and Interpretation
  • Development of Numerical Groundwater Models
  • Development of Process Level groundwater flow models (fully/partially or unsaturated flow) for:
    • Mine dewatering/re-watering for dredge mines, open cast and underground mines;
    • Water supply to mines, towns and cities and farming communities;
    • Groundwater impact assessments (input for EIA);
    • Input into geotechnical slope stability models;
    • Research studies;
    • Groundwater recharge studies.
  • Development of Process Level groundwater mass transport models for simulation of mass concentration of contaminants (fully/partially or unsaturated flow) for:
    • Mine tailings, waste rock and return water dams;
    • Industrial and Hazardous waste disposal sites;
    • Land-fill sites.
    • Aquifer clean-up operations;
  • Development of Process Level groundwater heat transport models for simulation of groundwater temperature for disposal of heated brines on lined industrial sites
